Album of the Week: Beat Konducta Vol. 5

September 23, 2008

I highly recommend this album, it’s all instrumental and you won’t be disappointed. Mablib does some of the best beats I’ve ever heard and it flows well. I don’t have much knowledge on Hip Hop Instrumental albums but this is one of the best I’ve heard.

Album of the Week: Eazy-Duz-It

September 15, 2008

This is the debut album of Eazy-E, it was written by Ice Cube and produced by DJ Yella & Dr. Dre. It helped popularize NWA & gangsta rap and helped get St8 Outta Compton sell more copies. It was released in the arguable greatest year of Hip Hop 1988.

The album has sold 2 million copies so far…the album is an arguable Classic but in my opinion it isn’t…it’s a good album but nothing superior, it has an old school album so those into old school will enjoy it.

1. Still Talkin’
2. Nobody Move
3. Ruthless Villain
4. 2 Hard Mutha’s

Album of the Week: All Eyez on Me

September 8, 2008

R.I.P Tupac Shakur
All Eyez on Me is arguably 2Pac’s best album an amazing 5/5 reviews from multiple sources, and this week will be the 12th anniversary of his tragic date.

It was the first Hip Hop Duo disc album, the album went platinum in 4 hours and has been certified Diamond, it’s one of the few. It is called one of the greatest albums of the 90’s.

He immediately starting working on the album when he was released from prison. All 27 songs were finished in a mere 2 weeks. His fastes was the 7 Day Theory which took about 1 week. Although his style had changed up to a more “Gangsta” style he still delivered with deep songs like Life Goes One & Only God Can Judge Me.

2. All Bout U
3. Skandalouz

September 7th Special Dates

September 8, 2008

Lets mourn for moment here today. September 7th is the day Tupac Amaru Shakur was shot in Las Vegas after the Tyson fight which only lasted about 4 minutes. He had gotten into a fight with Orlando Anderson before the shooting.(personal blow my name is Orlando). Some how the shooter got away & nobody was held responsible for the shooting. 2Pac died 6 Days later on Friday the 13 at 4:03 PM.

Another Notable Date today is the birthday of Eazy-E, he would have been 45 today he died of the AIDS virus 13 years ago. He didn’t write his own lyrics but his charisma carried his rap career over & he was a good business man & the founder of NWA. Eazy-E left behind 7 children & he married Tomika recently before his unfortunate death.

R.I.P to both of these West Coast Legends

Album Recommendation: Blackstar

September 6, 2008

It’s a collabo with Hip Hop stars Mos Def & Talib Kweli. It’s a great album Top 5 albums of 1998. A lot of the songs were produced by Hi-Tek so you automatically know it’ll have great production. The album is a Hip Hop classic.

“Black Star deals with modern day issues, ideas, and life in Brooklyn, New York City as the two artists know it.”
The album deals with issues today in Hip Hop like in the song ‘Definition’ they refer to Pac & Biggie
“One two three / Mos Def and Talib Kweli / We came to rock it on to the tip-top / Best alliance in hip-hop, Y-O / I said one two three / It’s kind of dangerous to be an emcee / They shot Tupac and Biggie / Too much violence in hip-hop, Y-O”

Most of the album is about the struggle, violence in Hip Hop & they dedicated a song to black women

1. Intro
2. Astronomy (8th Light)
3. Definition
4. RE:Definition
5. Children’s Story
6. Brown Skin Lady
7. B Boys Will B Boys
8. K.O.S. (Determination)
9. Hater Players
10. Yo Yeah
11. Respiration
12. Thieves In The Night
13. Twice Inna Lifetime

*Rumor* Soulja Boy is Gay?

September 4, 2008

Recent News on the Hip Pop stars sex life has been revealed. He is known for having degrading lyrics towards women. “Super Soak Dat Hoe.” and now we find out that he might indeed be gay. Though I personally don’t care about his sexual preference. His career might have a very early end. Like T-Dub posted, mainstream Hip Hop is very homophobic. For the first time I wish Soulja Boy good luck.

Album of The Week: The Old Prince by Shad

September 1, 2008

This is a great album that was recommended to me by a member on Yahoo Answers (click member for link to profile). I didn’t know what to expect from this album when I decided to get it.

His style can be very serious in some songs and in others he can be goofy. He has a clean vocab for those that don’t like explicit lyrics. The albums production is good & lyrically the album is great.

The album starts off with the fact that Prince’s aren’t supposed to be old. Then he starts off rapping about Gas Prices, Quebec separatism & Religion, to name a few. Shad doesn’t want to rap about the usual so he picks other topics. The one thing I didn’t like is that a lot of his songs didn’t really go with the “Old Prince” Theme but his rapping is very enjoyable.

The album has been nominated for the 2008 Polaris Music Prize
The album was nominated, but lost for Rap Recording of the Year at the 2008 Juno Awards

1. Intro: Quest for Glory
2. I Don’t Like To

6. The Old Prince Still Lives At Home
7. Out of Love Pt. 2
