Underground Artist Review – Slum Village

Slum Village is a Detroit, Michigan based Hip Hop Group consisting 2 active members and 2 former members. The members are known as T3, Elzhi, former member Baatin and the late member J Dilla.

Slum Village was first formed by Baatine, T3 and Jay Dee. In late 2002 Jay Dee left the group right after the group released their first national album.

Once, Jay Dee left, Jay Dee replacement was Elzhi another Detroit raised rapper. Baatin also left the group due to health complication, this time there was no replacement for Baatin.

The group went on without Jay Dee and Baatine, and released several albums. Without Baatin and Jay Dee Slum Village still deleverd Soul Stirring Sonics style that represent Detroit to the fullest.

The group went on releasing “Detroit Deli (A Taste of Detroit)” in 2004 and “Slum Village (Barak Records)” in 2005. Slum Village stated that they will be releasing 2 up and coming albums. One which contains unused beats made by Jay Dee, and the other which will be produced by Black Milk.

Apart from Slum Village, Elzhi released 2 Mixtapes and an album. He’s Mixtapes are known as “Witness My Growth” and “Europass” and his album which is known as “The Preface”.

T3 as well released several Mixtapes. T3’s mixtape known as “Olio: The Mixtape” features guest apperances such as Guilty Simpson, Elzhi and Que – Dhk.
