The Providers are a cool jazzy hip hop duo from California consisting of producers Jason Skills and Soulo. They are currently signed to ABB Records that also represents other hip hop artists and groups that are well-known by serious hip hop fans but not necesarily “mainstream”; like Dialated Peoples and Little Brother.
Their style reminds me of a lighter and more jazz influenced Gang Starr which they have also said was one of their musical idols. They are definetely a group to look up if you are searching for mellow hip hop.
Their second album, Looking Backwards 2001-1998, is essentially a greatest hits album for them in that time period and it is one that I would recommend.
